THE ICONIC PRESIDENTIAL CHAIR

The iconic Presidential is a series composed of a sofa and armchair designed by Jorge Zalszupin (1922-2020) in 1959 and produced by his company, L'atelier. The piece is made of molded laminate wood. Presidential armchairs and sofa take advantage of molded laminate to create a light, organic structure that elegantly welcomes voluminous cushions. This one has chrome feet. Much more than rationalizing design, Zalszupin focused mainly on the acquisition and use of new technologies and materials to make series production viable. This focus on new technologies and materials meant a path to the aesthetic freedom that he desired so much, and the molded laminated rosewood allowed the designer to execute the longed-for curves without necessarily implying the adoption of long and expensive manual processes. The piece is in very good vintage condition, and presents a manufacturing stamp.  New cushions in soft Nubuck leather.
