A viewpoint over the rooftops of the Alfama, from the convent of São Vicente, Panteão, Santo Estevão, São Miguel and Santa Luzia, and beyond across the wide blue swathe of the Tejo, various or Mar de Palha. Our building Portas do Sol, with the four floors of its façade and then attic window, basking in the south and eastern sun, proudly sits back and takes in the view, and from within, the views get more magnificent the higher you rise.. Outside the castle keep, but surrounded by ancient walls, residents here can not avoid being immersed in history, popular and otherwise, with which the neighbourhood vibrates. Stunning light and picture postcard beauty, modern uniformity is not to be found. Graça about a ten minutes walk or a brief tram ride, provides everything for day to day essentials, from grocers to butchers, cafes and restaurants. Chiado, Baixa, Liberdade are only a fifteen minute walk providing a quite different and more sophisticated taste in shopping and dining. Portas do Sol is really the cradle of Lisbon.
