In the most bohemian and vibrant neighbourhood of Lisbon with hands-down the most life and soul, Graça manages to maintain a resident and native population, people born in the Portuguese provinces and generations of families born and bred in the bubbly neighbourhood, as well as a rich mix of nations coming through, making it their home and others passing through for hours, days, weeks, months or years. The project Bispo de São Gens was conceived exactly from the heart of Graça, this nature of people being at home for however short a time and being enriched by it. The co-living, not just a hotel, but a space of 20 rooms where the visitors can stay up to a series of months, with a bedroom, bathroom, desk, ability to cater for yourself, make friends, live with others, and even better, surrounded by unusual art work and cinematic collection, if you choose to by the project completed.

LIVE IN GRAÇA

Graça sits on one of Lisbon ´s high hills, cut off in some ways by the steep climb up. The neighbourhood that largely grew in the 19th century, doesn’t have the same architectural claims as Alfama, Baixa, Chiado and Misericórdia, but makes up in spirit, remaining one of the most authentic ´popular ´neighbourhoods in Lisbon, where native populations of generations born and bred in the neighbourhood plus those born in the provinces in different times, and a rich mix of incomers. Graça meets in the pastelaria, in the late night music venues, on the school run, which many can do on foot, in the butcher, the chemist. A couple of stunning miradouros offer entertainment and stunning surroundings and conviviality for locals and tourists. Gentrifying, but for many of the above reasons, remains a mix, and with some more accessible housing whilst elegant residential developments creep in and smarter watering holes.
